The how-to manuals are incorporated on top and in the middle of a sometimes chaotic atmosphere; they represent the act/distraction . I want these tid-bits of instructions to give off something concrete in the compositions.  Otherwise the compositions will seem somewhat non objective. The product manuals, I collect from purchases, aid in representation of the multitude of ways to accomplish an action.  I see instruction manual everyday. Everyday, I feel I am constantly putting things together and taking things apart.  The instructions function similar to the daily interruptions, in that we usually don’t follow directions well and do things the way our perceptions have taught. I enjoy some sort of connection with the things I have purchased over the years, and  often keep a list of items I may have to purchase in the future. I look up the products pdf, and incorporate them with past visual vocabularies.  I look at these as being on the surface, a direct distinct sound/conversation/email information etc.  I am excited by what can be sent in an email, I am amazed that all the communication around us is hidden  traveling around and through us, I want to make some glasses to see it. I want to see these frequencies/spectrums I imaging them to be beautiful.  Seeing the contents of a pdf sent from one part of the country flying by me only to be received without any knowledge. I want to set up a system of seeing what travels through and around me.  This is what I imagine my perfect work of art to be. I am just amazed and love thinking about what is hidden obvious and overlooked right in front of our face, only because we refuse to slow down and see.

The decision process in making "I really meant to get back with you.....

All around me are distractions, I can go anywhere to find some ones personal life directly interfering with mine.  The smart devices we have are making us less able to communicate face to face. I feel enticed by current trends in technology and at times find myself shocked I participate in them so much.   Do we need to establish a new etiquette with new technologies?  Less face to face communication is taking place probably because of the multitude of options, lets see… shall I call, text, email, video chat, or tell someone face to face the good/bad.  For the most, communication has become flat 2d .. We hardly communicate in private.  In my work I want to present some of these devices and scenarios that cause the distractions I see and feel on a daily bases.  Acknowledge  the overload of stimuli we encounter daily. I want to infer these cues in the work.

I worked on this 72″ x 96″ relief painting all last summer, the parts were made for some time, but I lacked the commitment to put it all together. This work has abstractions of parts found in current and outdated  phones and attempts to speak about devices we rely on for communication  What started as simply showing my 4 year old to take apart devices actually turned into this work.
